Q: Why does young people’s slang change so much?

A: Because old people keep catching on.

[Upon seeing a few black faces on a televised service of a local white church.]

Q: Why do some black people feel compelled to attend white churches?

A: Because white preachers don’t holler at you. They just talk to you.

    I think some people like their Jesus unburdened by history.

    They can feel the presence of God without knowing how that God was used to Oppress us and keep us inferior, from without and within.

    Of course…

    That means they won’t be able to engage in the unique tie that Black folks have with God. The God who simultaneously Oppressed us and freed us. Depending on who was preaching.

    I’ll take the Black Church experience…warts and all.

    Ikog: I take the black church too but I visited a white church regularly because they don’t resort to all the hollering and theatrics. When that starts, that’s when I mentally check out.
